the body under the skin. The skin then heals around the jewellery to
anchor it in. It gives the appearance of a small single bead/crystal on the
skin, via a simple procedure.
The relativly small size of the jewellery allows placement almost
anywhere on the body, although healing can be difficult, as with surface
piercings, on areas of high movement or places that get knocked.
These implants need to be done by an experienced professional.
Not every piercer can do dermal anchoring because it's a technical
implant that requires experience and skill. There are also locations on
the body where dermal anchors will not work due to tissue type, body
movement and clothing requirements,
Dermal anchors are subject to the normal piercing problems such as
tearing, snagging, and infection and cannot be removed like regular
jewellery.
Dermal Anchors are great for places on the body where a surface
piercing would be quickly rejected, eg wrists, neck, cleavage and collar
bone area. There is a possibility of rejection but it much lower than with
a surface piercing.
Due to the fact that they are inserted into the body, removal must be
done by a trained professional ie a doctor or piercer. Removal generally
results in a small amount of scarring which is more noticeable on darker
skin. The neatness of removal can affect the amount of scarring
afterwards.
