• It is likely that your tongue will swell considerably. A longer bar has been used to allow for this.
• Rinse with diluted alcohol free mouthwash twice a day and preferably after every meal and cigarette.
• Maintain good oral hygiene during the healing process. This includes brushing your tongue gently around but not over the piercing.
• Regularly taking Ibruprofen will help to reduce the pain/swelling.
• Eating may be difficult. Try to stick to softer but not liquid foods. Avoid eating spicy, salty or acidic foods.
• After 7-10 days you will require a shorter bar. Please contact the studio to arrange an appointment. There is no extra charge for this service.
Labret/Madonna
• Wash hands thoroughly before touching the piercing.
• The inside of the piercing should be cleaned with mouthwash two to three times per day.
• The outside of the piercing should be cleaned with warm water and a cotton bud to remove any crust.
• Apply SAVLON WOUND WASH solution and work through piercing by gently moving jewellery. PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL THE CRUST MUST BE REMOVED BEFORE DOING THIS.
• Dry with disposable/kitchen towel. Avoid cloth towels as these can harbour bacteria.
• You will notice that the back of your stud will sink slightly into the inside of your lip. This is perfectly normal.
• Be careful not to catch/bite the back of the stud while eating.
What is normal?
• Initially – Some bleeding, localised swelling, tenderness or bruising.
• During Healing – Some discolouration, itching, and secretion of a whiteish, yellow fluid (not pus), which will form some crust on the jewellery.
• A piercing may seem healed before healing is complete. This is due to the piercing healing from the outside in and the inside tissue may still be fragile. Be patient and continue aftercare throughout the entire healing period.
• Do not remove jewellery before the given healing time. If in doubt, please contact the studio.
WHAT TO AVOID
• Avoid friction from clothing, playing with the jewellery and over cleaning.
• Avoid all oral contact, rough play and contact with other bodily fluids.
• Avoid spray tans, sunbeds, swimming and bathing until fully healed. Showers are ideal.
• Avoid any body or beauty products on or around the piercing. This includes make-up, body spray etc.
